Why would you drop your gently used items in a drop box in a parking lot and walk away? Would you deposit bags of your money in a drop box? Have you ever read the fine print on some of those dumpsters? They are not all owned by charitable organizations.
When you donate your items to the Salvation Army, Goodwill, or other charitable organization, you are helping the less fortunate. But far too often we are one paycheck away from needing a handout ourselves. Maybe you can write off the donation for a fraction of what you paid for the items but then you still have to replace those items.
Who wants to deal with the paperwork and headache of consignment shops? There is no guarantee that your items will sell and you still have to spend money to replace the items you sold.
Why get lost in a sea of classified ads and auctions to ultimately deal with a stranger with whom you will have little recourse with if the deal goes awry? Instead, deal with a reputable company that can be held accountable.
You could hand the items down to a family member or friend but you would still have to spend money to replace the items you gave away. You are better off referring your friends and family (we give you Gumdrops for that too) and everyone will be happy .
GumdropSwap is an eco-friendly company. We use recycled and recyclable packaging materials whenever available. We salvage slightly damaged items by repairing the damage in a creative way (replacing a button, fixing a hem, or covering a stain or tear with appliqué, etc). If we think the item can be “repurposed” it may be used to make other items for resale (i.e. quilts, bibs, etc). When you do receive a repurposed item, it will be identified as “Gumdrop Couture” so you will know it is a one-of-a-kind item.
We support children and families in need. We work through local government agencies and/or faith-based organizations that have identified children in need of assistance. We are in the process of obtaining our own “501 c 3 non-profit” status.
