Last year I brought affordable new & pre-loved Halloween costumes and they were such a hit with festival attendees so that's what I'm bringing again this year. Here are some photos of happy kids in their costumes.
On Sat. 9/13/14 a friend will be joining me to sell scarves and other accessories. On Sunday, 9/14/14, another friend will be in my tent selling her custom tutus. Please come visit our tent near the Children's area. We look forward to meeting you!
Wanna win a new sustainable nursery furnished by Kalon Studios (pronounced like "talon" with a k) and a year's supply of Free & Clear Diapers, Wipes and Laundry Detergent from Seventh Generation?
The nursery chosen for this special sweepstakes features 100% domestic maple, and like all Kalon Studios furniture, is designed to last and grow with your child. Designer/owners Michaele Simmering and husband, Johann Pauwen, are committed to sustainability. Kalon Studios was created in 2007 when Michaele was pregnant with their first daughter. Every piece they designed came from a need in their own lives.
She says, "We think intensely before we buy anything, considering the lifespan of the piece in our own home, the materials, where they came from, etc. No matter how much language we put out there, I don't think we scratch the surface of how truly considered our products are from the ground up. We source everything as close to home as we can, as sustainably as we can and as high quality as we can. We use raw materials that are renewable, biodegradable, and non-toxic. We even finish our woods with an oil we developed that is non-toxic and food safe. And we truly believe in using local manufacturing to help revitalize and sustain craftsmanship in the states." Johann and Michaele see sustainability as more just the materials and processes they use. "Furniture is often a thoughtless purchase to fill an immediate need, so cheap you don't need to think about it. Sustainability comes through managing and caring for a piece of furniture rather than trashing a poorly made, 'quick-fix'. Buy something you love, need and will care for as a result."
Information was borrowed from Seventh Generation's blog.

I was blessed to win a Eileen Fisher Women's Business Grant in 2012. Have you heard of their 2nd-hand collection called Green Eileen? My relationship with this inspirational company has afforded a special offer I can extend to my customers. While supplies last (I have a certain number of coupons) I can give you a $25 OFF any purchase of $50 or more for Green Eileen merchandise. All you have to do is spend at least $25 at Gumdrop Swap and mention this offer! To be used at locations in Yonkers, Irvington & Central Valley, NY and Seattle, WA locations.
I've said it before, my daughter (almost 6 now) loves to help in the kitchen. I try to give her any task like stirring, dipping, taste testing, that she can handle. She's pretty good but I do have to remind her that we cannot reuse any utensil she "tastes" from. Sometimes she'll sneak and stick her finger in whatever we're working on if I've got my back turned. I have to promise she can lick the bowl once we're finished.
I mentioned the wanting a good apple pie recipe to my best friend in Georgia and she remembered making fried apples with her daughter some years before. She thought the recipe may have been from the Food Network and said it called for pancake batter. I had some "just add water" mix in box that has been in my cabinet for a while and I wasn't a fan of the pancakes it made but maybe if I spruced the batter up a bit I wouldn't have to throw it away?

Stuffed Biscuits Cups? I couldn't come up with a better name for this dish. I'm open to suggestions. This is a really easy recipe. And my budding chef (5 yr old daughter) wants to help me cook every night. So I gave her the tasks of making the dough cups.
